Alyssa Gisselle Olvera
I’m a Brownsville, Texas–born visual storyteller, editor, and communications professional based in Austin. My work centers on one belief: storytelling is how communities are built, trust is established, and people feel invited to belong.
Across newsrooms, classrooms, and creative spaces I’ve built from the ground up, I’ve seen the same formula work again and again — honest storytelling creates connection, connection builds trust, and trust is what allows communities to grow. Whether I’m developing social content, producing visual journalism, or collaborating with creatives and stakeholders, my approach is rooted in empathy, adaptability, and long-term relationship building.
I’m the Founder and Chief Visual Editor of A La Moda, a creative publication and learning community where I lead content strategy, social storytelling, and collaborative production across digital, print, and live platforms. Previously, I’ve worked as a Multimedia Producer for Austin’s NPR News & Music Station (KUT/KUTX), a Summer Staff Photographer for the Houston Chronicle, and as a photographer and editor for publications including Austin Monthly and SPARK Magazine.
I’m a first-generation Mexican-American college graduate, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Leadership Development from The University of Texas at Austin. My background in journalism shaped how I think about responsibility, accuracy, and audience trust — principles I now bring into communications and social media work.
At my core, I’m someone who builds platforms, nurtures creative relationships, and uses storytelling as a tool to connect people to ideas, to each other, and to something larger than themselves.
